When trying to connect to the Operator GUI an Error: "Unable to connect to web service URL" appears.
This can be caused by a couple things.
1. HTTP Errors
1. Make sure that asp.net is mapped to the SightMaxWebServices virtual directory. You can do this by right clicking on the
virtualdirectory>Properties>Configuration Button. Search for an extension of .aspx. If one is not found, map asp.net to your
web server.: http://www.sightmax.com/support/index.php?x=&mod_id=2&root=1&id=4
2. Make sure the IUSR that is being used for anonymous access on the SightMaxWebServices virtual directory has the permission to access
the physical directory.
2. FireWall Error
You may get the error: "Unable to connect to web service url. This could be due to a firewall configuration error"
1) For servers with multiple IPs or that are configured behind a NAT:
Go to your SightMax Config by opening SmartMax.SightMax.Service.exe.config (located in C:\Program Files\SmartMax Software, Inc\SightMax\WinSvc). Edit the keys IpBind and ipPublish(be sure to take out the comments "), change the value "0.0.0.0" to the IP you wish to bind to. Then change the key to reflect the public IP used in the IP bind key. Upon completing, restart the 'SightMax Server' Service. Your Operator GUI's should now be able to communicate with the server.
//If you are not behind a NAT, simply put your public IP here as well
2) For servers with single, public IP:
Edit your SightMax Config by opening SmartMax.SightMax.Service.exe.config(located in C:\Program Files\SmartMax Software, Inc\SightMax\WinSvc). Edit the key UdpBind (be sure to take out the comments " "), change the value "0" to the port you wish to bind to
( a good one is 8080 ).
Save the config file and restart the 'SightMax Server' Service.
